The town has all the public services required of a modern town including, schooling, water and sewer, fire protection, telecommunication services, and much more. We are serviced by the larger area of Conception Bay North including Bay Roberts and Carbonear with a hospital, post-secondary and training, policing, and shopping.
Carbonear General HospitalA modern health care facility serving the Bay de Verde Peninsula – Conception Bay North and Sothern Shore of Trinity Bay. Carbonear General Hospital is a well-equipped facility with 80 acute care beds under the management of the Eastern Health Board. A full range of services are provided including: ambulatory care; diagnostic services; general surgery; diabetes education program; patient care education; laparoscopic procedures; physiotherapy; occupational therapy; social work; and it has visiting disciplines in audiology; neurology; pediatrics; prenatal; and ophthalmology.

St. Peters School
St. Peter’s School is a part of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. The school currently has an enrollment of approximately 210 students and offers grades Kindergarten through Grade 9. The school serves the communities of Bishop’s Cove, Bryant’s Cove and Upper Island Cove. Approximately 80% of the students come to school by bus on a daily basis. St. Peter’s School offers cafeteria services and students have the opportunity to be served a cold/hot lunch from Harbour Breeze Catering. St. Peter’s School has a total of 17.25 full time teachers including 3 special education teachers, and specialist teachers in the areas of guidance, music, physical education, technology, and learning resources. We also have 4 student assistants. In addition to staff based at the school, we have itinerant services for speech-language pathology, hearing impairment, visual impairment, and education psychology.
Upper Island Cove Volunteer Fire Department
The Upper Island Cove Fire Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year, and is fully VOLUNTEER. We have 26 members and are fully trained in First Response, and Fire Fighting Capabilities, and respond to all medical calls, and are equipped with oxygen and defibrillator on board.
