Job Opportunity: CDO/Recreation Manager

Job Description

The Community Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring community and economic development within the Town. The CDO will assist branches of Council (Fire Department and Parks and Recreation Association) to identify and secure funding for community development opportunities. The CDO will also be responsible for management of all recreation facilities and will be responsible for ensuring clean and safe opportunities for sport and recreation and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for all citizens of the town. The Community Development Officer will report to the Town Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Promotion and marketing of the community to facilitate and expand economic development opportunities.
  2. Research of grant opportunities and complete applications to secure funding for community / development activities and programs.
  3. Act as an administrative liaison to the Parks and Recreation Association (PRA) and the Volunteer Fire Department.
  4. Develop new or revise existing programming to maximize the use of recreational facilities. This will be done in consultation with community groups and the public to ensure that activities and events are made available for all community members.
  5. Ensure that facilities are operated and maintained effectively and safely, ensuring adherence to facility policy and regulations, along with monitoring the use of recreation equipment and facilities.
  6. Prepare facility schedules, manage and supervisor custodial service, manage bookings for sport rentals and community events
  7. Promote recreation and sport programs in order to ensure that residents are aware of available opportunities and activities.
  8. Administer annual Summer Youth Worker Program (SYWP) in cooperation with the PRA.
  9. All other duties as may be assigned by the Town Manager.

Skills

  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and
  • PowerPoint.
  • Successful candidate must be self motivated and self directed.
  • Successful candidate must have a class 5 drivers’ licence and own vehicle.
  • Ability to work well with others and able to promote team building.
  • Have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, sports and recreation.
  • Previous experience in marketing, economic development, event planning and fund raising is an asset.
  • Have strong leadership and management skills.
  • Successful candidate is expected to be available to work flexible hours as may be required.

Education

  • A post-secondary diploma/certificate in Business Administration and/or Recreation Management is preferred and other post-secondary education will be considered; a combination of education and relevant experience may also be considered.

The successful applicant will be considered part of the Town’s Management Team and therefore the position will be non-union and will not be part of the bargaining unit.

Salary will be $21.00 per hour.
